A total of 159 children have been detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca) and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
This is according to a parliamentary written reply by Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in response to a question by Klang MP Charles Santiago.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said 142 children were detained under Poca and 17 children were detained under Sosma.
Both laws allow for detention without trial.
The 17 detained under Sosma were from when the law was gazetted on June 22, 2012.
The written reply did not specify the time frame for Poca.
As for the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015, it said the law has not been used against any children.- Mkini
