Faced with deregistration threat, Bersatu says ROS ignored amendments

Bersatu supreme council member Tariq Ismail claimed the Registrar of Societies had been non-responsive to the party's request to call its youth wing as "Armada" and women's wing as "Srikandi".
"Bersatu had sent ROS its amended constitution, which included the names for the Armada and Srikandi wings that was approved by the supreme council in July but to date, there had not been any response from the ROS," he said in a Facebook post.
ROS director-general Surayati Ibrahim had said Bersatu's used of the name "Armada" was illegal as it was not part of the party's constitution.
She added that the offence could cause Bersatu to be deregistered.
Meanwhile, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman also echoed Tariq's statement that Bersatu had communicated with the ROS on amending the party's constitution.
Syed Saddiq confirmed receiving a letter from the ROS on Nov 7 informing him that he was being investigated over the name issue.
"I will do my best to provide assistance in the investigation process," he said in a statement.
He also urged Bersatu Youth members to stay strong.
"Those on the other side will do everything in their power to weaken our fighting spirit," he said.
Syed Saddiq pointed out that the ROS had also been delaying Pakatan Harapan's registration as a formal coalition. -Mkini
