Kindergarten teacher detained for slapping 4-year-old pupil

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a kindergarten teacher yesterday in Jalan Cempaka Putih, Kajang, for allegedly slapping a four-year-old boy.

Kajang police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the 19-year-old girl, who was picked up at 7.30pm, had resorted to the action after the victim refused to write as instructed at a kindergarten in Sungai Jelok, Kajang, on Oct 31.

According to him, the teacher allegedly slapped the left and right cheeks of the boy, causing bleeding in the ears and swellings on both cheeks.

“The victim, who has been attending the kindergarten since last year, was in trauma and crying when his father came to take him home,” Ahmad Dzaffir said in a statement here yesterday.

He added the victim was later sent to Kajang Hospital for examination.

“Initial inspections found soft tissue injuries on both cheeks and ears of the victim,” he said.

The suspect was remanded for three days starting today to assist investigations under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001, he said. -FMT
