RoS: PPBM faces deregistration for unresolved issues

ros-ppbm-1

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies has warned that PPBM may be deregistered if it does not resolve several issues related to the naming of its youth and women’s wings in its constitution.
Its director-general Surayati Ibrahim said the party’s failure to conduct the necessary annual general meetings (AGMs) of its branches as well as at the central level with minimum required quorum could also contribute to its being deregistered.
She was quoted by the New Straits Times (NST) yesterday as saying that the youth and women wings were termed “Armada” and “Srikandi” respectively despite these names not being stated in its constitution.
She said the RoS had in June accordingly returned a proposal sent by the party on amendments to the constitution.
“We made some requests for them to fulfil in our last meeting. But they have remained quiet and the matter is not resolved,” she said.
“If the party continues to violate the provisions under its own constitution, and violates regulation under the Societies Act 1966, then the party could face the possibility of being deregistered,” she was quoted as saying.
“This could likely happen if it fails to resolve issues that have cropped up,” she added.
She also said the party had failed to hold an AGM since it was formed in September last year.
“The RoS can take action against the party under the Societies Act. This is not a matter that is negotiable,” Surayati was quoted as saying.
“If the party fails to abide by laws governing the RoS, and it does not abide by RoS’ instructions, there is a possibility of it being de-registered.
“The law must be abided by to be fair to the party’s members and supporters,” she said.
She said PPBM had held a special committee meeting that only involved its supreme council members, and not divisional or grassroots members.
“The RoS views the matter seriously as any registered party must resolve in-house matters as stated under the Societies Act,” she was quoted as saying.
NST also reported PPBM secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh as saying he was scheduled to meet the RoS on Tuesday on complaints lodged by divisional members from several states.
“I am definitely ready to be investigated and will give my full cooperation to the RoS,” he was quoted as telling a press conference yesterday.
On Nov 1, PPBM youth wing chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said the party had long decided to postpone its AGM.
“We already held a special meeting on this matter two months back, where we made sure the postponement was done in accordance with the party’s constitution,” he said. “We even consulted lawyers on this matter.” -FMT
