Ex-Felda chair, GM, signed power of attorney for land deal

PARLIAMENT | The power of attorney that enabled the company Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd to transfer the ownership of Felda prime land was signed by the Felda chairperson and its general manager at the time, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

However, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ibrahim (BN-Muar) stressed that this does not mean the duo are in the wrong.

“The PA (power of attorney) was signed by the Felda chairperson at the time and the general manager. I’m answering Yang Berhormat’s question, so I will tell you.

“This is not a matter of who is right and who is wrong because investigations are still ongoing. As I have mentioned, there are many recommendations and findings from the forensic auditing.

“It’s just that to answer the question, so I will answer who signed or issued the PA,” Razali said in response to a question from Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKR-Indera Mahkota) during Question Time.

The Felda chairperson at the time was Isa Samad, who was Felda chairperson from January 2011 until the end of 2016. The letter was dated June 3, 2014.

Police had questioned Isa for five hours on Jan 8 as part of investigations on the land transfer, which was done by Synergy Promenade to transfer the land to a related company, and was done without Felda’s knowledge.

The general manager at the time meanwhile was Faizoull Ahmad, who served from September 2012 until January 2015.

The land had since been returned to Felda, at no cost. Razali said the relevant documents had been signed by the time the return was announced on Jan 15 this year.

The land transfer back to Felda was formally registered on March 2 for 14 of the plots of land, and March 8 for the remaining two plots, he said.  Mkini
