Residents' group seeks PM's intervention in KL overdevelopment

Selamatkan Kuala Lumpur (SKL), a coalition of residents' associations, today sought Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's intervention in the overdevelopment of Kuala Lumpur.
This was after several appeals to Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor about a slew of high-density developments fell on deaf ears.
SKL chairperson Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, along with several residents' association representatives, submitted a memorandum to the prime minister's representative in Parliament today.
"We are desperate to highlight this matter as it is important not only to the people but to the city.
"This is why we have taken this to a higher level in objecting the Kuala Lumpur City Hall's refusal to gazette the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020," he said.
The plan would clearly define the development zones in the city as well as the recommended density.
Abdul Aziz said it was an embarrassment for a city like KL not to have a proper plan.
He also submitted a number of demands to the prime minister's representative, including urging the involvement of the people in the city's planning.
SKL also handed over their demands, contained in their manifesto, to a number of Federal Territory MPs last week.
Besides wanting the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 to be gazetted into law, the group also called for the reintroduction of local government elections, which were abolished at the federal level in 1965.
Although invitations had been sent to all Federal Territory MPs, only those from Pakatan Harapan were present at the manifesto handover.  -Mkini
