As Dr M leads Harapan charge, Anwar thanks him for sacrifices

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim expressed appreciation to Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his role in trying to bring about change with the opposition coalition.

"I reiterate my appreciation to Mahathir for his willingness to sacrifice his time and energy in standing with Pakatan Harapan to create change in the 14th general election.

"Mahathir coming forward as a (Harapan) leader is based on his experience and contribution to the nation and most importantly, his willingness to embrace the agenda of change," Anwar said in a statement.

Anwar is presently serving a jail sentence in Sungai Buloh prison but was at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today for a defamation case. The message was released through his party.

Anwar, who is also Harapan de facto leader, stressed that the 14th general election was the time to "save Malaysia" from Umno and BN's "autocratic" rule.

"The 14th general election is the best opportunity for the people to combine their strength and install a government that is committed to combating corruption, misappropriation and will ensure Malaysia as a democratic and just nation," he said.

Anwar is expected to be released from prison in on June 8.

He was jailed in Feb 2015 for sodomy, a charge he claimed was politically motivated. - Mkini
