Zahid 'thanks' Dr M for proposal to cancel ECRL

GE14 | Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today "welcomed" Pakatan Harapan's intention to cancel the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, should the coalition capture Putrajaya in the coming general election.
Zahid said this is because voters in the east coast will outright reject the proposal, which was put forward by Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"God willing, I'm sure everyone in the east coast will reject the proposal.
"I personally would like to thank (Mahathir) for the proposal, and I'm sure he has taken the right decision to reject the support of east coast voters for his party (Bersatu)," he told a press conference after attending a function in Kuala Krai earlier today.
Also present were Kelantan Umno liaison committee chairperson Mustapa Mohamed, Kuala Krai Umno division chief Ramzi Ab Rahman, and other state party leaders.
Mahathir (photo) reportedly said on Sunday that Harapan intends to stop the ECRL project should it win in the coming polls.
The former premier said that the 688km rail project, which spans across Selangor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan, was a "waste" and did not need to be constructed.
Winds of change in Kelantan
At the same function, Zahid expressed confidence that in Kelantan, winds of change are blowing in BN's direction for GE14.
"I really appreciate the warm reception accorded by Kuala Krai folk, which shows that a new wave has come here.
"This is not only due to the help given (by the federal government) after the 2014 floods, but also in the form of the construction of the Kuala Krai hospital and other infrastructure," he said.
Earlier, Zahid announced an allocation of RM6.5 million to the Kuala Krai Umno division to help the poor, as well as the construction of a surau and bridge in Kampung Temalir.
He stressed, however, that the allocations would only be "passed" if BN wins one parliamentary seat and the three state seats of Manek UraiDabong and Guchil in GE14. - Mkini
