Caretaker Federal Territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today cautioned civil servants against the influence of DAP, a party which he claimed consists of mostly Christian evangelists.
"We are facing the most obvious challenge – there is a coalition whose backbone is the DAP – a chauvinist party where most of its leaders are evangelists.
"If they are Catholics I would believe them, but when they are evangelists, new Christians, this is the problem.
"This is what DAP really is, and it is Pakatan Harapan's backbone so you must be careful," he said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of two surau in Presint 11K and 11F in Putrajaya today.
Tengku Adnan insisted, however, that he was not against other religions.
"There's even a Quranic verse which states that your religion is your religion and my religion is my religion.
"This is what Islam is all about, you shouldn't brand Islam as (a religion of) terrorism and other things," he said.
This is not the first time that the DAP has been accused of being a Christian evangelist party.
PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi last year declared that a vote for Harapan would ultimately be a vote for DAP, whose movements, he said, were shadowed by the Christian evangelist agenda.
Academician Kamarul Zaman Yusoff had earlier claimed that the composition of DAP's central executive committee was proof that the party has a Christianisation agenda.
‘Return to the path’
Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan said it was important for Muslims to show the true teachings of Islam, as opposed to showcasing a lifestyle that is not in line with Islamic teachings.
"We're Muslims, but we do evil and despicable things that non-Muslims shake their heads when they look at us. So I ask that we all go back to the path of righteousness."
The incumbent Putrajaya MP also pointed out how Islam determines the country's sovereignty, citing the Malay rulers.
"But all these will be destroyed if we are not careful.
"It's the same with the special rights of the Malays, our language and many others which could be destroyed because these people do not like what we have achieved."
Benefits not ‘magic’
At today’s ceremony, Tengku Adnan said that many are envious with what the caretaker government had done for civil servants in Putrajaya.
"In relation to civil servants, they say things like we are slow, we are useless, we are no good.
"If we are negligent and we like the stories that they bring, we will be the ones who will lose out in the end, when in fact all of these things were due to the government's careful planning."
The caretaker BN government, Tengku Adnan added, has given many benefits to the people in the 60 years it has been in power.
"And never in our 60 years as the country's leaders have we denied the rights of Christians, Buddhists or Hindus, because this is the true teaching of Islam.
"We can only go against them if they are against us," he added.
He also lamented how Muslims in the country tend to forget "many things."
"They think that what they are enjoying today is like ‘zum kara zum’, magic.
"All these need planning. We would not achieve all these things if there were no careful planning and good administration," he said. - Mkini
