GEORGE TOWN: DAP’s incumbent Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto says her lawyer has sent a letter of demand to The Star daily over an article which she claims has an inaccurate headline.
The April 13 article revolves around alleged infighting in Batu Kawan DAP and speculation that as a result, she will be fielded in Perak.
Kasthuri has denied such infighting and blamed BN.
The article carried the headline: “DAP confirms infighting in Batu Kawan”, which Kasthuri said was false and had no link to the article.
She also claimed that an admission of the error was “buried” in another story the next day.
The admission was placed in the last few paragraphs of an article quoting Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow on Kasthuri’s status in the coming polls.
Kasthuri said her lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, had sent a letter of demand to the daily, demanding that they publish an apology by April 20.
“At a critical time such as this, I am baffled as to what could have motivated the newspaper to concoct such a slanderous headline on infighting in Batu Kawan if it is not to create a feeling of unhappiness and displeasure among the DAP supporters since the election is around the corner?” she said at a press conference at the Penang DAP headquarters on Rangoon Road today.
