GE14 | As MCA and Umno continue to tussle over the Chinese party's seats in the federal territories, Umno and BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor says the Malay party will adopt a "take one, give one" approach.
According to Berita Harian, Tengku Adnan admitted that both Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak are MCA seats.
"We have asked MCA to give back both seats to Umno, and we will decide that one seat be lent to Umno, and another seat will be returned to MCA," he was quoted as saying.
One of his remarks indicated that Umno will likely take Bandar Tun Razak, and let MCA retain Wangsa Maju.
"Based on observations, we see that MCA can easily win Wangsa Maju... but a decision has yet to be made, wait," he said.
Sources in Umno have already confirmed with Malaysiakini that Umno plans to field its women's wing chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in Bandar Tun Razak.
Tengku Adnan declined to confirm this, urging patience over the matter.
MCA Wangsa Maju division chief Yew Teong Look meanwhile, had told Malaysiakini that he would decline to comment on whether his party will contest the seat until official confirmation is made.
Both Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak have more than 50 percent Malay voters.
Both seats were won by PKR in the 2008 and 2013 general elections. - Mkini
