Penang caretaker chief minister Lim Guan Eng has urged federal government caretaker ministers including prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to return their official vehicles to the chief secretary.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, had returned his official car yesterday and was driven to Komtar today in his personal vehicle.
"Although we are now a caretaker government, we follow convention and will continue our routine and administrative work," Lim told reporters at the state secretariat building, Komtar in George Town.
"Power is now back to the people, we hope other states will also follow the examples of Penang and Selangor in returning their official assets to their respective state secretariats," Lim said.
"As for the federal government, we urged the caretaker PM and his caretaker cabinet ministers not only to return their official cars but jets and helicopters as well," Lim added.
Asked how would the state excos travel to work from now on, Lim quipped, "We will take the Rapid Penang free bus".
Lim, who is also incumbent Bagan MP, held a press conference at Komtar today to return 12 official cars to State Secretary Farizan Darus.
Accompanying Lim at the VVIP carpark on Level 2, Komtar were the 10 former state executive councillors and Lim's political secretary Wong Hon Wai.
Asked regarding the Kelantan caretaker PAS government which has decided not to return their official cars, Lim merely said: "They are following Umno's ways".
"If they want to do it, it is up to them," Lim said.
The move to return the official cars comes after former Penang assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang confirmed the dissolution of the state legislative assembly yesterday.
The Election Commission has announced that May 9 as polling day while nomination day will be on April 28 for an 11-day campaign period for GE14. - Mkini
