Punishing PPBM will backfire, says Zaid

The former minister says people who support Mahathir will still vote for him in the absence of PPBM's logo at the next polls.
PETALING JAYA: Saying he was not surprised by the Registrar of Societies’s (RoS) decision to slap a temporary deregistration on PPBM, former minister Zaid Ibrahim said the move would backfire against Barisan Nasional (BN).
The former minister said voters who support former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad would still vote for him.
“There will be a positive impact, especially for Tun Mahathir,” he told FMT today. “People will still vote for him no matter the banner he decides to contest under.”
RoS today slapped a “provisional dissolution” on PPBM, citing the party’s failure to furnish documents and details within the stipulated period.
The party, formed in 2016 after the fallout between Prime Minister Najib Razak and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin, has been given a month to furnish more documents to RoS, failing which it could be permanently deregistered.
This followed an earlier notice by RoS to submit minutes of its branch, divisional and central leadership meetings, as part of investigation into hundreds of complaints filed by PPBM members.
