GE14 | There are other individuals more qualified to lead MyPPP, said Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today following the exit of former president M Kayveas.
The BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) portal quoted Tengku Adnan, the coalition's secretary-general, as saying that Kayveas should not have insisted on contesting the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat when he knew it had been allocated to MIC.
"He wanted the Cameron Highlands seat, even after not only me, but BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak told him that the seat belongs to MIC.
"If he (Kayveas) leaves the party, there are a lot of others who can lead it, there are others who are qualified to do so," Tengku Adnan was quoted telling the press after a function in Kampung Pandan.
Earlier today, Kayveas announced his resignation from MyPPP, after almost two decades at the helm.
Besides his party post, he also said he was stepping down as the party's Perak state advisor, and chairperson of Federal Territories chapter.
However, the party leadership told a press conference later that Kayveas was instead sacked, after it received a letter from Tengku Adnan instructing a disciplinary hearing be held against him for making unilateral decisions on seat allocations.
Among others, Kayveas is alleged to have passed up the offer of four state seats for Cameron Highlands, even though it did not get Najib's approval.
Tengku Adnan also told reporters today that the BN leadership often reminds its component parties to help each other.
"I have made it clear that we do not want any of the component parties weakening its other allies," he said. - Mkini
