TMJ’S OSTENTATIOUS ‘FREE SHOPPING’ GESTURE BACKFIRES BADLY: RUMORS OF ANOTHER ROYAL WINDFALL SPARKS FRENZY IN PONTIAN SUPERMARKET – UMNO DAILY RUSHES TO BLAME IT ON ‘FAKE NEWS’

Aeon Mall Tebrau City in Johor opened at noon today after posting a notice on its shutter informing customers that it would remain closed until further notice.
It is believed that the supermarket needed time to neaten up after the shopping scramble.
Shoppers at the supermarket were given a surprise after the Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim turned up on Wednesday and offered to pay their shopping bills.
He announced to shoppers that he would be paying up to RM3,000 of their groceries per person.
Tunku Ismail, who was accompanied by his wife Che’ Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, used a loudhailer to make his announcement, which was received with applause and cheers of “Daulat Tuanku” and “TMJ! TMJ!” from shoppers and visitors, who then made an orderly beeline for the products on the shelves.
The Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page subsequently carried a brief statement and photographs of his visit to the shopping centre.
“I’m no politician, I do not need votes. But I genuinely love my people. Always with you, Bangsa Johor.”
Some of the lucky shoppers also uploaded pictures of the free shopping spree onto their Facebook pages.
Videos and pictures of the event created a massive buzz on social media networks. It has been learnt that Tunku Ismail, popularly known as TMJ, spent up to RM1 million for the special treat. – -Sundaily
More than 1,000 people swarmed an Econsave supermarket outlet in Pontian following a rumour that Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim would be sponsoring groceries.
According to Utusan Online, the staff’s attempt to explain that the rumour was false fell on deaf ears as shoppers filled their trollies to the brim and headed to the cashier.
“Pictures and messages circulated saying Tunku Ismail will supposedly sponsor shoppers at Pontian Econsave is completely false.
“We made five or six announcements about this but the people still did not believe us,” said Econsave operations manager Mas Imran Adam.

The report said people have been flooding the supermarket as soon as its doors opened this morning.
Yesterday, Tunku Ismail made a surprise visit to the Aeon Tebrau City Mall at around 6.30pm where he declared to shoppers: “Whatever you want at the supermarket today is on me.”
Shoppers were allowed to purchase items for up to RM3,000 per person until 8pm.
This led to a mad rush as people cleared out the supermarket. Tunku Ismail reportedly spent RM1 million on the surprise treat.
The mall opened late than usual this morning.
Social media was awash with photographs showing abandoned trollies full of items as shoppers could not pay within the stipulated time period.
However, it could not be ascertained if the Aeon mall opened late due to this. – M’kini
According to NST:
Spread of fake news about TMJ giveaway at Econsave Pontian causes frenzy
The fake information disseminated via a voice recording claimed that TMJ would be going from district to district with money and spend RM200 on each shopper at Econsave Pontian from noon today.
The “news” caused people to throng the supermarket and fill up their trolleys with goods they thought would be paid by TMJ.
The Pontian Econsave management had to call the police to validate the information and when it turned out to be fake, dismayed shoppers abandoned their trolleys.

Some policemen had to maintain control around supermarket with some shoppers having to be told to leave if they were not paying for their trolley full of goods.
Econsave operation director Mas Imran Adam refuted claims of the free giveaway.
“We suffered a bit of loss today but its okay. What saddened us was that some of the people who came were disabled people and senior citizens who did not want to miss out on the free shopping frenzy,” he said.
Mas said the Econsave management wouldl lodge a police report on the incident this evening. – NST
