Mavcom boss earns RM85k a month, Loke confirms


Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairperson’s salary is RM85,000 a month.
This comes after a post went viral on social media about the Mavcom executive chairperson's salary being RM80,000 a month.
“His actual salary and allowance, after bonus, is RM85,000 a month (in 2018).
“It’s more than the prime minister’s basic salary, which is RM20,000-plus a month,” Loke quipped in a press conference at the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya today.
However, he noted that Mavcom is not funded by the government, other than an initial grant of RM90 million.
Mavcom’s annual revenue is RM35 million while its annual operating costs is RM25 million, he said.
Loke added that he has nonetheless raised the issue in the cabinet, and the prime minister has instructed chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa to review the salaries of chairpersons from statutory bodies, commissions and government-linked companies (GLCs).
Loke also said that for now, Mavcom will not suffer the same fate as the Land Public Transport Commission (Spad).
“Mavcom will stay for the time being. We have no plans to abolish Mavcom,” he said.
On a separate issue, Loke said the search for MH370 came to an end yesterday.
The ministry will prepare a final report on the search for the missing plane, which will be presented to families of passengers on the flight before it is released to the public.
“I wish to reiterate that the aspiration to locate MH370 will never be abandoned and we remain ever hopeful that we will be able to find the answers we seek,” he said. -Mkini
