The federal commercial crimes investigation department (CCID) had grilled former 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy for five hours yesterday.
A source familiar with the 1MDB probe said Arul was among others quizzed on his public talks regarding the fund prior to the May 9 general election.
“Arul had given a number of talks regarding 1MDB.
“Police were thoroughly checking the facts that he had mentioned during his public talks to explain about 1MDB prior to the 14th general election,” the source told Malaysiakini.
The source also did not rule out the possibility of Arul being charged with criminal breach of trust in the future, but said this would depend on the progress of the investigation.
Malaysiakini has contacted CCID chief Amar Singh for confirmation regarding the probe.
Prior to the election, Arul had toured the nation to counter what he claimed was the then opposition’s misinformation regarding 1MDB.
In June, The Star reported that Arul was sacked from his position, two days before his actual contract was to end on June 30.
Arul was appointed to head the firm in 2015. Prior to that, he ran Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s investment banking and corporate finance division
Following a meeting between him and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng some two weeks after BN’s defeat in the 14th general election, the latter had described Arul as “utterly dishonest and untrustworthy.”
Yesterday, former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s wife Rosmah Mansor was questioned by the MACC for more than 13 hours at its headquarters in Putrajaya.
