An official of the Defence Ministry today lodged 14 reports with the MACC over questionable procedures surrounding 16 land swap deals involving real estate of the ministry.
This came as the ministry made public its investigative reports into what it said were dubious land swap deals. The reports were revealed beginning May 9.

Mohd Nasaie Ismail (above, centre in black coat) special function officer to Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, said he filed 14 reports today with the first two reports filed earlier in February.
The two earlier reports were over land swap deals involving the Hutan Melintang and Paloh army camps.
He said he lodged the reports as most of the land swap deals were not planned by the ministry but driven by the private sector with political considerations outweighing government interests.

The losses occurred due to delay in the completion of the projects, supplementary contracts signed that were not part of the planning as well as land prices being set lower than those determined by Valuation and Property Services Department.
"Our worries are that the government suffered losses not only in terms of money but also in the status of its defence strategy," said Nasaie.
"In the spirit of upholding the sovereignty of the country and for this matter not to reoccur, reports (were) lodged with MACC for follow-up action," he said. - Mkini
