Drug raid sees 63 arrests, 17 of them foreigners

KOTA KINABALU: A suspected drug addict jumped into a filthy pool of muddy water to escape arrest during a police raid, but it was all in vain.
Policemen nabbed him in just a few minutes as they gave chase during a recent drug raid in Kg Sembulan near here.
The suspect, in his 20s, was among the 63 people, aged between 14 and 50, who were nabbed during a week-long, anti-drug crackdown from May 11 to 17 around the city.
Kota Kinabalu acting police chief Supt George Rakman said the raids focused on several villages.
"These villages are Kg Sembulan Lama, Kg Delima, Kg Likas and Kg Kalutan Inanam," he said in a statement here Saturday (May 18).
Of the 63 arrested, three are believed to be dealers, 15 had drugs in their possession, 44 were tested positive for drugs and one was nabbed under the Poisons Act.
"A total of 46 suspects are locals and the rest are illegal immigrants," Supt George said.
Syabu weighing about 18.54g worth RM2,781 were also seized.
All suspects will be investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act.
Supt George urged the public to continue being the eyes and ears to the police in a bid to rid the city of crime and illegal immigrants.- Star
