GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a 66-year-old prawn seller at a market here who scalded his son with hot water in a dispute over an insurance payout.
In the incident which occurred at the man’s apartment in Bukit Gelugor at 6.30pm on Wednesday, the 35-year-old son demanded his share of RM30,000 from the insurance and savings plan of his mother, who died in 2005.
However, the father refused his request and splashed him with hot water from a flask, causing burns to the son’s neck and chest.
The son, who lodged a police report on the matter, told police that before her death, his mother had bought an insurance and savings plan for the family, including his siblings.
He claimed his father had divided the payout equally among his siblings but refused to give him his share.
Northeast district police chief Che Zaimani Che Awang said the father, when questioned, admitted to scalding his son who sought treatment at the Penang Hospital.
He said the man was let out on police bail yesterday pending an investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt. - FMT
