Minister vows action after group 'misused' his name for publicity

Those who use names of any ministers for publicity without permission from the ministries involved can be subjected to the law, said Tourism, Culture and Arts Minister Mohamaddin Ketapi (above, with red necktie).
Mohamaddin said doing so tarnishes the image of the cabinet minister and the culprits would be brought before the law.
"Organising an event by using the name of a minister to publicise it is wrong, and those who misuse the name of the minister can be apprehended by the law," the minister warned.
He was responding to a report in The Star today that the Asia Pacific Tourism and Travel Federation had claimed that it obtained written permission from Mohamaddin, adding that the minister would be attending the event.
Describing the claim as a lie, Mohamaddin said he did not receive any invitation from the association, whether it was sent directly to his office or via his officers.
"If we accept or reject any invitation, my office would respond to the organisers in writing," he said.
"I would ask my officers from the ministry to represent me (in case I could not make it), it is not as reported, that is a lie," he stressed.
Mohamaddin said the federation has also allegedly committed an offence by using the Tourism Malaysia logo without permission.
"They have committed two offences and action will be taken," Mohamaddin said.
Mohamaddin was on a working visit to George Town where he was invited to attend the launch of the Royal Caribbean International's new ship 'Spectrum of The Seas'.
Accompanying Mohamaddin at the event was US Ambassador to Malaysia, Kamala Lakhdir. - Mkini
