ROSMAH Mansor was the de facto prime minister when her husband Najib Razak was in office, businessman Deepak Jaikishan told news channel Al Jazeera during an interview.
“It came to a point where every project had to go through her,” Deepak told senior reporter Mary Ann Jolley of the 101 East programme.
n the interview, Deepak, who is a former business associate of the couple, gave details of how the two used their positions to enrich themselves and their family members.
He said he used to give Najib and Rosmah millions of ringgit in cash and jewellery in exchange for lucrative government contracts.
“The diamonds, especially expensive, priceless pieces, were her way of keeping their money. It’s an easy way for her to siphon off the money and to keep them in a very simple place.
“They never imagined they would lose the election. They never imagined the police would raid their house,” said Deepak.
The third and final episode of Al Jazeera’s documentary “Malaysia: Power and Corruption” will be aired at 6.30am tomorrow.
After it is aired, the documentary will be available on YouTube with Bahasa Malaysia subtitles.
The documentary will also be available on Al-Jazeera’s website.
Deepak, who is suing Najib and Rosmah over a failed property deal, said jewellers would go to her house in Deepak’s presence and Rosmah would tell him to settle payments directly to the jewellers after she picked the jewellery she wanted.
Rosmah currently faces 19 charges of money laundering and tax evasion.
She has also been charged over policing bribes in exchange for a government contract while one of Najib’s trial for money laundering and corruption began last month.
The duo pleaded not guilty to all charges. –
