The sole surviving Malaysian men's doubles pair of Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani play their quarter-final match later today.

World No 2 pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, playing in their second tournament after a two-month layoff owing to injury, went down to Japan’s 13th ranked Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara 20-22, 16-21 in 45 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.
The Malaysians, who were finalists at this World Tour Super 1000 event last year, were also beaten in the last 16 stage at the Singapore Open last week.
Separately, it was heartbreak for national mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai as they squandered two match-points in the deciding game against French pair Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue.
Soon Huat-Shevon, ranked world No 12, eventually went down 21-15, 18-21, 20-22 to their world No 6 opponents in a match lasting 68 minutes.
The Malaysian husband-and-wife team have failed to reach a semi-final this year, after having only made it to three quarter-finals, and losing the other matches in the early stages.
Malaysia’s only hope now rests on men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who play their quarter-final match later today. - FMT
