Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said those arrested comprised eight men and four women, all Malaysians aged between 26 and 48.
The arrests took place in phases across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur.
Fadil said seven suspects were released on police bail on Aug 7 after giving their statements. The remaining five are still on remand until tomorrow.
“Police are still tracking down one more suspect who remains at large,” he said in a statement.
He said a report was filed on Aug 1 by a Japanese man who said his employer, the 38-year-old Taiwanese YouTuber, had been assaulted and robbed at Eko Cheras Residence in Kuala Lumpur.
The victim was injured and suffered estimated losses of RM35,000.
Fadil said the suspects knew the victim had a large amount of cash in high-value foreign currencies, which served as the trigger for the criminal act.
The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 395 of the same code for gang robbery. - FMT
