Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz says the party remains a PN member and is entitled to be involved in seat negotiations ahead of the Melaka polls.
Tun Faisal said Bersatu remains a PN member and has all the rights accorded to a component party as stated in Clause 7 of the coalition’s constitution.
“If it is true that the negotiations in Melaka will not involve Bersatu, it means PAS is once again denying Bersatu’s rights as a member party as stated in Clause 7 of PN’s constitution.”
He also claimed PAS sidelined Bersatu prior to the Negeri Sembilan state election by not inviting the party to attend PN meetings on seat negotiations.
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said yesterday that PN’s talks with Barisan Nasional (BN) on the state election in Melaka would not involve Bersatu.
The current term of the Melaka state assembly ends in December, unless it is dissolved earlier. An election must be held within 60 days of dissolution, or by late February at the latest.
Tensions between Bersatu and PAS flared after the Islamic party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed Bersatu had automatically ceased to be a PN member after it announced the formation of a new coalition – an allegation that PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar dismissed.
Tun Faisal said the contradictory statements reflected badly on PN as they suggested Hadi wielded greater authority than Samsuri.
Earlier today, the Registrar of Societies said it was reviewing a complaint from Bersatu over its membership status in PN and concerns about its exclusion from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16 which finalised the seat allocations for the Negeri Sembilan state election. - FMT
