GE14 | DAP's Bandar Utama candidate Jamailah Jamaluddin said voters should look at her record instead of focussing on her ex-communist grandmother.
"I feel what the people need to know is who Jamaliah Jamaluddin is, my background and the community issues that I have resolved.
"Focus on what I can do for Selangorians and Malaysians.
"I am puzzled that people are focussing on my family background. I hope people will focus on the important things," she told journalists in Petaling Jaya today.
Jamaliah, called Aliah by her friends, had also once served as a local councillor with the Petaling Jaya City Council.
She was responding to former Utusan Malaysia journalist Hata Wahari who attacked the DAP for fielding the "granddaughter of a communist".
Jamaliah is the grandchild of Shamsiah Fakeh (above) who led the women's wing of the now defunct Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).
Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua said he did not want to prolong any talk on the matter.
"We need to differentiate between what happened in the past and now.
"Aliah is not a communist. She supports the democratic system and people's rights. We shouldn't link her to the past," he said. -Mkini
