KOTA BARU: Women who wear indecent attire including tight dresses and pants in public are considered to have committed an offence under the Shariah law in Kelantan.
According to sources, Kelantan Islamic Affairs Department and Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) could apply the law to penalise the suspected offenders.
A source said the department and MPKB had the right to take action against both locals and outsiders if they were found to wear “sexy” dresses.

He said the action was to encourage women to protect their “aurat”, or areas of the body which must be covered under Islamic teachings.
"During certain operations, the department and MPKB do not issue any summonses and only warn the offenders against repeating the offence.

Under Section 5 of Kelantan Syariah Criminal Enactment Code 1985, women who are dressed in sexy or tight clothing in public places are liable to be fined up to RM1,000, a jail sentence of up to six months, or both, upon conviction. -NST
