Najib still on medical leave, trial to resume on Tuesday
9.04am - The RM2.28 billion 1MDB trial will only resume on Tuesday as accused former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak obtained a two-day Medical Certificate (MC) on Wednesday.
This was confirmed by both DPP Ahmad Akram Gharib and Najib's lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah in text messages.
Akram said a Kuala Lumpur High Court senior assistant registrar (SAR) called the prosecution yesterday to inform about it.
"No need to mention (today). We were informed by the SAR.
"Judge (Collin Lawrence Sequerah) set Tuesday (next week) for hearing (of the 1MDB case)," he said.
In a text message, Shafee (above) confirmed that the defence was informed that hearing would resume next week due to his client still on medical leave today.
A court official this morning also confirmed that open-court proceedings will not resume today but on Tuesday next week instead.
Najib was unable to attend the hearing yesterday as he had come down with conjunctivitis, a type of contagious eye disease.

Yesterday's hearing for Najib Abdul Razak's RM2.28 billion 1MDB trial was postponed as the accused was suffering a bout of conjunctivitis.
Previously, the former premier's SRC International trial had been vacated for a few days due to the same reason.
This morning, the Kuala Lumpur High Court will find out whether the accused is well enough to attend proceedings or whether he has obtained a medical certificate (MC) from an eye specialist to be excused from today's trial as well.
Najib's lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah yesterday about his client's health condition, adding that the defence would produce an MC the next day to help the court determine whether to proceed with the trial.
If proceedings resume today, the defence will resume its cross-examination of Najib's former special officer Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.
Any such cross-examination of the eighth witness is expected to be intense, given his earlier testimony that wanted businessperson Jho Low purportedly claimed to act on behalf of Najib when issuing questionable orders to Amhari.
The orders concerned alleged damage control over the 1MDB scandal, among others. - Mkini
