KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has issued a notice to a shop owner to explain a RM30 charge for repairing a water-damaged calculator.
The ministry's state deputy director Aswadi Jaafar said the notice was issued yesterday under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act.
"The trader is required to submit complete information regarding the service charges within four working days for further investigation.
"We will examine whether there are elements of profiteering or any breaches in the transaction," he said.
Aswadi said the ministry acted following a public complaint.
The issue went viral recently after a receipt showing the RM30 repair charge was circulated on social media.
Netizens questioned the rate, describing it as disproportionate for repair work that reportedly only involved installing a used battery. -NST
