JOHOR BARU: The state government has issued immediate stop-work orders against two developers identified as the cause of flash floods in several areas in this district and Kulai.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the 14-day stop-work order was issued under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133) by the respective local authorities.
He said the two developers were found to have carried out development projects but failed to comply with technical requirements and drainage control measures, resulting in flash floods.
"This action is intended to immediately halt all construction activities until corrective and mitigation measures are fully implemented to prevent recurring risks to local residents," he said in a statement.
Mohd Jafni said although the state government supports development that can stimulate the economy and attract investment to Johor, it maintains a firm stance that public interest and safety must not be compromised.
He said that all development carried out in the state must fully comply with stipulated technical requirements, including drainage management, drainage systems, erosion control and the implementation of effective flood mitigation measures.
"I issue a stern warning to all developers to strictly adhere to all guidelines and approvals set.
"Any development that causes flash floods will be issued an immediate 14-day stop-work order until flood mitigation measures are completed and recurrence is prevented," he said. - NST
