Muhyiddin slams PAS for holding alliance talks with BN

The Bersatu president accuses the Islamic party of making unilateral decisions that go against Perikatan Nasional’s interests.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin (left) said Abdul Hadi Awang’s PAS held negotiations with BN without consulting or involving any other PN component, or even the coalition’s Supreme Council.
PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has hit out at PAS for holding discussions with Barisan Nasional on an electoral pact for the Negeri Sembilan state election.

Muhyiddin said PAS held negotiations with BN without consulting or involving any other Perikatan Nasional component party, or even the coalition’s Supreme Council.

“Bersatu is disappointed with the unilateral decisions made by PAS, which go against PN’s interests.

“Calls by PAS leaders to support BN candidates in the Johor polls, and now the Negeri Sembilan polls, had never been agreed upon by the PN Supreme Council.

“This clearly goes against PN’s interests as a national coalition meant to be an alternative to BN and Pakatan Harapan,” he said at a press conference here tonight.

Muhyiddin, a PN deputy chairman, said the coalition was supposed to meet on Sunday to discuss the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, but the meeting was postponed because of PAS’s decision to cooperate with BN.

He maintained that this should have been discussed by the PN Supreme Council beforehand since it involved the coalition’s direction.

“The PAS-led PN has strayed from the coalition’s goals and core struggles, which includes defending Malaysia as a plural country of various races, religions, social classes and regions.

“Recent statements made by PAS leaders have given rise to suspicion among the rakyat, especially young Malaysians, about PN’s commitment to defending Malaysia as a stable, peaceful and harmonious country of various ethnicities and faiths,” he said.

The former prime minister said Bersatu has decided to “remain moderate and progressive” and would continue championing these values, in line with the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara. - FMT
