Zuraida defends Raudhahville as promoting universal values

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin sees no problem with the Raudhahville township, which specifically targets Muslims, as being bad for national unity.
She said the project stresses on universal values such as cleanliness and community.
"Even though it is a Muslim community, they follow Islamic values which are universal.
"Non-Muslims live there too, so it is okay, I think it is okay," she told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Raudhahville is part of Bandar Raudhah, a mega-project between PKNS and Raudhah City International Sdn Bhd in Cyberjaya.
The RM12.3 billion project has been ongoing since 2015, and aims to be the "world's first modern Islamic city".
Last month Raudhah City International's CEO Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir told news portal Free Malaysia Today that out of the 300 units already sold, some of the buyers include non-Muslims.

Pressed by reporters on the need for guidelines to ensure an ethnic balance in the city, Zuraida said she did not see a need for it in the case of Raudhahville.
However, she added that there are housing projects that have a specific quota.
Citing the example of the People's Housing Projects (PPR) under her ministry, Zuraida said they adopted a quota of various lower-income groups to ensure the community could live in a cohesive environment.
“The PPR has not practised ethnic quotas but it has (household) income quotas. No government officials, no teachers," she said. - Mkini
