The GPS vice-chairman hints that the 13th Sarawak state election will be held before the final quarter of the year.

Speaking at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) 67th anniversary celebration, Sim urged party members to prepare for intensified political activity and ramp up efforts to engage the public.
“We are fighting the war less than 100 days from now. So we really need to get going,” he said, according to Dayak Daily.
He added that the 13th state election, which is only due by April 2027, would not merely be a battle for seats but will decide Sarawak’s development agenda leading to 2030.
“This election will determine whether Sarawak will continue growing as it heads for 2030. Are we already mature, or will we still be growing?
“The difference is that if we are mature after 2030, no one can bully Sarawak,” said the Sarawak deputy premier.
Sim added that the Bornean state is entering the “final stage of nation-building” with the Sarawak government prioritising achieving health and education autonomy, as well as the full implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
He said this is why GPS needs to obtain a bigger mandate from Sarawakians at the polls.
Previously, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu information chief Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the next Sarawak state election was highly likely to be held this year.
Karim, a state minister, also supported holding the next general election concurrently with the Sarawak state polls.
GPS won 76 of 82 seats in the 2021 Sarawak polls, followed by Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with four and DAP two.
PSB’s Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How later quit the party and backed the GPS government as an independent, while PSB went on to join the Progressive Democratic Party, a GPS component, en bloc. - FMT
