PUTRAJAYA:
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will allocate about RM11 billion in capital expenditure over the next five years to support airport infrastructure expansion and modernisation across its network nationwide.

MAHB managing director Izani Ghani said the investment reflects the airport operator’s long-term commitment to strengthening airport capacity.

The investment will also enhance its operational resilience, modernise infrastructure and support future passenger growth, he added.

“As airport infrastructure projects become larger and more complex, the industry ecosystem must evolve alongside them,” Izani said in a statement.

“We want to provide greater visibility into where future opportunities lie so that contractors, suppliers and partners can prepare earlier and scale their capabilities with greater confidence.”

MAHB announced the allocation during its inaugural procurement and project showcase, a new industry engagement platform aimed at strengthening ecosystem readiness ahead of a growing pipeline of airport development projects nationwide.

The showcase brought together contractors, consultants, suppliers, specialists and industry partners from across the infrastructure delivery chain to encourage earlier collaboration, improve market readiness and support better long-term planning for upcoming airport projects.

Among the major projects highlighted was the KLIA Development Plan, which is aimed at supporting future passenger traffic growth beyond 100 million passengers annually.

Other key projects include the expansion of Penang International Airport’s capacity from 6.5 million to 12 million passengers a year, as well as the proposed upgrading of Kota Kinabalu International Airport to increase its capacity from nine million to 12 million passengers annually.

MAHB manages 39 airports across Malaysia, comprising five international airports, 17 domestic airports, and 17 short take-off and landing airports. It also manages the Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Turkey. - FMT
