MCA has demanded that Transport Minister Anthony Loke explain the RM178 million contract for the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and toll payment system, which was allegedly awarded to the brother of former MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.
In a statement today, MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong said the issue was not merely a procurement matter, but one that directly involved the government’s integrity, credibility and commitment to transparency.
Chong (above) called on Loke to clarify whether the contract was awarded through an open tender, how many companies took part in the bidding process, and the criteria used in selecting the successful bidder.
He also asked Loke to reveal who evaluated and approved the award, and if no open tender was conducted, what procurement procedure had been used.
"The government should also explain the status of its previously announced investigations into the alleged ‘corporate mafia’ and the Azam shareholding controversy. Have these investigations been completed? If so, why have the findings not been made public?" Chong asked.
Malaysia is planning to add a cyber force as the fourth service of the armed forces to strengthen the country's ability to respond to cyber and cognitive warfare.
Khaled Nordin Defence Minister Khaled Nordin said modern conflict has evolved beyond conventional military engagements, with cyberspace and the battle to influence public opinion emerging as key concerns.
"We need to implement the Total Defence (Hanruh) concept because, in today's modern threats and challenges, wars do not necessarily begin with confrontation between security forces. They may instead start by taking control of our social media and other platforms," Bernama reported him saying.
Khaled was responding to a supplementary question from senator Noor Inayah Ya'akub on how cyber and cognitive threats are being incorporated into the implementation of the Hanruh concept during today's Dewan Negara sitting.
PAS is confident of winning three of the five seats it is contesting in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Its vice-president, Amar Nik Abdullah, said that of the 11 state seats being contested by Perikatan Nasional, PAS is fielding candidates in five: Serting, Lobak, Ampangan, Paroi and Bagan Pinang.
He said the party is confident of retaining Serting, Paroi and Bagan Pinang, all of which it won in the 2023 state election.

The Sabah government is exploring the introduction of incentives, such as essential household items or cash rewards, to encourage the public to collect rubbish as part of its efforts to improve cleanliness throughout the state.
Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Fairuz Renddan said the proposal was among several ideas raised during a recent visit to Semporna with Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, particularly in tackling waste management issues in villages and coastal areas.
“There was a suggestion that people could exchange a basket of collected rubbish for items such as a packet of cooking oil or receive a cash incentive to help change public attitudes towards cleanliness."
Bernama reported that he said this in reply to a supplementary question from Calvin Chong (Warisan-Elopura) during the Sabah legislative assembly sitting.
Calvin Chong Chong had proposed introducing a payment scheme, such as RM2 for every kg of rubbish collected, to encourage greater public participation, particularly among young people. - Mkini
