PAS seeking to revive MN behind our backs, says Bersatu man

Bersatu Supreme Council member says talks on reviving Muafakat Nasional with Umno were never raised at PN meetings.

PETALING JAYA:
A Bersatu Supreme Council member has accused PAS of pursuing talks with Umno on reviving the Muafakat Nasional alliance without discussing the matter within Perikatan Nasional.

The leader, who did not want to be named, alleged that PAS was negotiating a new political arrangement involving Umno and figures aligned with former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.

“PAS is negotiating in a way that betrays Bersatu and PN. We have been informed that they proposed MN 2.0 involving PAS, Hamzah and Umno, and that this was what was discussed last night,” the leader told FMT.

He said discussions between PAS and Umno on reviving MN had never been raised through PN’s formal channels.

“This means PAS is operating behind our backs. Now we can see their true colours,” he said.

Earlier today, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that PAS and Umno leaders met last night at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur amid calls for a revival of the MN alliance.

However, Hadi downplayed the gathering as a routine meeting and said he was not directly involved.

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan were said to be among those who attended the meeting. Umno’s political bureau also met yesterday, reportedly at the same venue.

Earlier this week, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man called for PAS and Umno to work together in the upcoming Johor election, saying the time was right to revive MN.

These developments come after Hadi said that PAS is reviewing its relationship with Bersatu within PN.

He cited several issues affecting ties between the two parties, including Bersatu’s alleged interference in state matters, and its opposition to admitting new Malay-Muslim parties into PN.
