PETALING JAYA: The Sabah Education Department says it will not compromise on incidents of student misconduct and has ordered an investigation into a fight involving several students outside a school in Tawau.
The incident went viral on social media recently.
In a statement on Thursday (July 16), the department said it directed the school and district Education Office to identify the students involved and conduct an internal investigation.
"The case is also being investigated by the police, and the department is giving its full cooperation to the ongoing investigation.
"Although the incident occurred outside the school premises, any form of misconduct involving students is taken seriously.
"Such behaviour not only tarnishes the image of educational institutions but also threatens the safety and well-being of students," it said.
The department said firm action would be taken against any students found guilty of misconduct.
It was reported on Wednesday (July 15) that police arrested and remanded eight secondary school students for two days over a brawl in Tawau allegedly linked to the spread of artificial intelligence-generated sexual videos and images.
The students, aged 13 and 14, were arrested after a video of the fight, which took place on Friday (July 10) at a shoplot along Jalan Apas, went viral on social media several days later.
They are being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons. - Star
