
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s under-16 women’s football team clinched third place at the Srikandi Merdeka Cup tournament with a 4-0 win over Jordan in the playoff in Kudus, Indonesia, today.
Malaysia got an early break in the second minute when Jordanian player Eman Muhannad Mahmoud Altmaizi turned the ball into her own net. Lim You doubled the lead in the 40th minute when she slotted past the Jordan goalkeeper following a pass from team captain Keisha Adeliena Khalid.
In the second half, Malaysia extended their lead when Keisha stepped up to score from the spot after being brought down inside the box by Jordan’s Ragad Rafat Harbi Haqrous.
Isabella Saffiya O Luanaigh made it 4-0 in the 94th minute after calmly slotting the ball home off a cross from Keisha.
Malaysia was in the third-place playoff following a 1-5 defeat to Thailand in Friday’s semi-final. - FMT
