Zahid: BN studying pact alliance in Malacca; plan to expand filtered internet access to public in Selangor

Malacca polls

  • BN is conducting a detailed study on whether to ally with another coalition in the upcoming Malacca polls, said its chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

According to Bernama, the Umno president said this is due to “mixed” grassroots sentiments.

“Malacca BN chairperson Ab Rauf Yusoh will decide on this, and the Umno and BN leadership will finalise the decision at the central level,” Zahid (above) said after an event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Internet regulation

  • MCMC and the Selangor government are planning to expand filtered internet access to public areas and private higher education institutions.

Bernama reported Selangor Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee chairperson Fahmi Ngah as saying that this was due to the success of a pilot programme carried out at mosques, which prevented children from playing online games during prayer times.

Speaking to the press at a carnival organised by the MCMC in Petaling Jaya, the Seri Setia assemblyperson further proposed using AI to proactively detect keywords and fake accounts linked to cyberbullying and extreme content.

  • Police detained a 39-year-old in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, on Wednesday, suspected of making a seditious and insulting Facebook post against the royal institution, the government and a security agency.

Kemaman police chief Razi Rosli said the suspect has been remanded until next Wednesday to assist investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Bernama reported today.

A mobile phone and two SIM cards were also seized and handed over to the MCMC for digital forensic analysis.

Environment

  • The Teluk Kalong Beach near Chukai, Terengganu, has turned black with coal once again, prompting authorities to investigate its source.

Bernama quoted local residents claiming that the black solid material has washed ashore over the past three days, covering a 300m stretch of the recreational area and tourism site.

The report said the pollution is believed to have originated from a coal-carrying barge that sank in the area in January, which contaminated a much larger area but has since been cleaned up.

Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairperson Razali Idris has ordered several agencies to clean up the pollution and conduct investigations. - Mkini
