Ruddy Awah, 58, says the conversion was not intended as a stepping stone to pursue rank or position.

PETALING JAYA: Pitas assemblyman Ruddy Awah, his wife Asiah Udin, 56, and their son Aswady, 26, have embraced Islam in a ceremony at their home in Pitas.
Ruddy, 58, who is Sabah assistant minister of works and utilities, that the decision to convert was made without any coercion, and was not intended as a stepping stone to pursue rank or position.
Ruddy said four of his six children had previously embraced Islam, and were the main inspiration for his family’s journey to Islam. He said that he and his wife, who previously followed pagan beliefs, had studied Islam for more than 10 years.
The ceremony was also attended by Sabah Cabinet ministers and assistant ministers, as well as members of the local community. - FMT
