Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis said the projects are aimed at strengthening the drainage system and reducing the impact of flooding in the area.
"Sungai Rambai is a water catchment area that typically receives water from Johor during heavy rainfall due to its geographical location.
"The terrain in Sungai Rambai, which is capable of retaining water and has fertile soil, makes it a natural catchment area. Therefore, together with the relevant agencies, we are always on alert for potential flooding," she said here today.
She said this after the closing ceremony of the Festival D'Bendang Melaka 2026 in Sungai Rambai, which was officiated by Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang.
Siti Faizah said 46 drains across the Sungai Rambai constituency are cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure the drainage system remains in good condition.
She added that the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) also plays an important role in maintaining the main drains to ensure smooth water flow.
"Upgrading drainage infrastructure and carrying out regular maintenance help minimise flood damage and improve preparedness for future disasters," she said. - NST
