The 54-year-old claims the project's construction has caused a high build-up of water in the slope behind his home, raising the risk of soil movement.

Hishamuddin Jumat, 54, named three parties in the suit: China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC), Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and the Selayang municipal council.
Hishamuddin said he filed the writ of summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court as a last resort after trying to resolve the matter with the three respondents for nearly two years.
He claimed that the construction of the ECRL project, which started in early 2024, had caused a high build-up of water in the slope behind his house, raising the risk of soil movement.
“The construction work also caused strong vibrations that have damaged the house’s structure, in addition to noise and air pollution.
“If there’s a landslip, it will not only affect my house but also the ECRL track structure. It’s not only my family’s safety at stake, but also the passengers using the service when it begins operations early next year,” he said at a press conference with his lawyer, Ashmadi Othman.
Hishamuddin said he filed a formal complaint to CCC and MRL in February 2024, claiming that strong vibrations caused cracks to the walls, floor and ceiling of his house.
He then wrote to the prime minister and several ministries, among others, after his complaint purportedly went ignored.
“I received a response from the Selangor menteri besar and works ministry, although they simply referred me back to the companies.
“I then appointed a geology expert to conduct a study in August 2024 before obtaining another geotechnical report and conducting more detailed investigations at the site.
“The report found that the slope had a high water build-up, and that there was a high chance of the slope collapsing,” he said.
Hishamuddin added that he funded the study’s costs to obtain the necessary evidence to support his legal action.- FMT
