Harapan's Skudai candidate accuses BN rival of electoral offence

JOHOR POLLS | The campaign team for Pakatan Harapan’s Skudai candidate Kartiyaini Jeyapalan has accused her challenger from BN, Tan Hiang Kee, of committing an electoral offence on polling day today.

Former Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto posted two photographs on Facebook of a car parked outside SMK Taman Tun Aminah with Tan’s campaign sticker on its hood.

“This is against the law and is an election offence. Please take action!” Kasthuri said in the post, which tagged the Election Commission’s official Facebook page.

When contacted, Kasthuri told Malaysiakini the photos were taken earlier by Kartiyaini’s (above) campaign team.

Malaysiakini understands the EC enforcement team has been alerted to the alleged offence.

Separately, Kartiyaini’s campaign manager, Buntong assemblyperson Thulsi Manogaran, also confirmed that their team saw the car while visiting the polling centre this morning.

“We went there to see the voting process. Then we saw this car. And then we questioned (the driver), the candidate herself questioned,” she told Malaysiakini.

Thulsi said the driver claimed, “This is a Grab car,” adding, “We think that is not true.”

Meanwhile, Tan’s campaign manager Lim Soon Hai said the car was not a part of their official campaign team, but “may be owned by ordinary supporters unaware of the law”.

He also said Tan’s team will issue a reminder on Facebook urging supporters to remove any such stickers from their vehicles. - Mkini
