Rafizi's Bersama loses all deposits, vows to rebuild after Johor polls setback

JOHOR BARU: Bersama has conceded a disappointing debut in the Johor election after all 15 of its candidates failed to secure enough votes to retain their election deposits.

Bersama de facto leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said preliminary results showed the party's candidates secured between three and six per cent of the votes on average, falling short of the 12.5 per cent threshold required to retain their deposits.

He said the outcome also fell short of the party's initial target of avoiding deposit losses and securing at least 15 per cent support in the constituencies it contested.

Rafizi said an early analysis showed a significant shift in voter support towards Barisan Nasional (BN) across various age groups and ethnic communities, affecting candidates from other parties including Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Muda.

"The early analysis shows there was a significant shift of votes to BN from all segments of voters based on age and race," he said in a statement today.

He added that Bersama would conduct a detailed review of the results to improve its approach and strengthen efforts to win voters' confidence in future elections.

Rafizi thanked voters who supported Bersama candidates despite the party being only 52 days old during the Johor polls.

He also expressed appreciation to the party's candidates, members, volunteers and supporters who contributed to its campaign.

While the outcome did not favour Bersama, Rafizi said the election experience would serve as a foundation for the young party to grow.

He said Bersama would continue working towards gaining wider acceptance among Malaysians.

Bersama contested 15 state seats in the Johor election, marking its first major electoral test since its formation. - FMT
