All polling centres across the 56 state constituencies will close by 6pm.
The EC yesterday projected turnout for the Johor election at about 70%, citing strong public interest during the campaign period, which reflected enthusiasm to cast ballots.
Turnout in the 2022 state election was 54.9%, the lowest for a state election in recent history.
A total of 2.73 million are eligible to vote in the Johor election, which was called after the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on June 1.
Although the assembly had only been due to be automatically dissolved in April next year, speculation on an early election had intensified in May after several politicians publicly spoke about the prospect of early polls, while others laid claim to seats expected to be contested.
Barisan Nasional formed the state government after winning 40 of the 56 seats contested in the state election in March 2022.
Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, while Perikatan Nasional secured three seats, and Muda one. - FMT
