However, the husband, M Dhinakaran, was fined RM7,500 after pleading guilty to three counts of spraying red paint on the property of three people in Ipoh and Menglembu, while the wife, B Rahtheneswary, pleaded not guilty.
The couple, both 34, were alleged to have thrown a petrol bomb causing damage to five houses and a car in Pekan Razaki and Taman Kledang Suria, Menglembu, between 4am and 5am on June 4 and June 11. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years’ jail and a fine.
They were also charged with mischief by using fire with intent to cause damage to the entrance of a house in Jalan Menglembu Bestari at about 3.30am on June 12. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 14 years’ jail and a fine.
The couple, who were allegedly linked to “Ah Long” (loan shark) activities, pleaded not guilty after all charges were read out in Tamil.
The two accused, who were not represented in the sessions court, were allowed bail of RM11,000 each with one surety after they asked for a reduction from the RM20,000 requested by the prosecution.
They said they did not have a regular income, as Dhinakaran works as a food delivery man while Rahtheneswary is a special child care worker. They said they also have dependent children, a mother and a younger sister to look after.
In the magistrates’ court, Rahtheneswary was allowed bail of RM3,500 with one surety on each count of spraying red paint. - FMT
