The 20-year-old man was arrested today for failing to comply with a police officer’s orders.
Kuala Lumpur traffic chief Zamzuri Isa said a video clip had been posted online showing the white Mercedes-Benz pushing through the roadblock while travelling from Sri Hartamas towards the Kerinchi Link at 12.15am.
Traffic police were inspecting a Toyota Alphard at the time. “The Mercedes driver braked momentarily, but continued moving after misinterpreting the hand signals of a traffic officer who had wanted him to stop at the road shoulder for inspection,” Zamzuri said.
Police tracked down the driver, who later went to the Jalan Tun HS Lee traffic police station at 1.30am the same day, accompanied by his mother.
“The driver said he was not aware of the roadblock, and had only realised once he approached the location.
“He said he braked suddenly to avoid colliding with the car in front of him because of the weather, and because he was nervous as he had never encountered a roadblock before,” Zamzuri said. “He said he thought the hand signal was for him to proceed.”
The driver was arrested at 6.30pm today for failing to comply with a signal given by a police officer. The investigation paper will be referred to prosecutors next Monday for further instructions. - FMT
