PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has made a personal plea to Johor voters to support his party and Perikatan Nasional, as campaigning enters its final stretch tonight.

Muhyiddin, who has been MP for Pagoh since 1995 and served as Johor menteri besar from 1986 to 1995, said he was not speaking as a former prime minister but as a “son of Johor” returning to his homeland.

He recalled the hardships faced by residents in Pagoh, including poor roads, children having to travel long distances to school, and difficulties transporting farm produce to town.

He said he was not sharing these memories to highlight his achievements, but to show that he understood the challenges faced by Johoreans.

“I do not want to list what I have done. I only want you to know that I understand those hardships because I have gone through them together with you since Pagoh became an area that I have carried as my own responsibility,” he said.

Addressing young voters, Muhyiddin said many were worried about finding jobs, rising living costs and whether they still had opportunities to pursue their dreams.

He acknowledged that the road ahead remained challenging due to economic pressures, global uncertainty and rapid changes, but pledged to continue standing with the people.

Muhyiddin also urged voters in Bukit Pasir and Bukit Kepong, two of the seats contested by Bersatu, to give the party and PN another chance.

“I appeal not as a leader speaking to the people, but as a son of Johor speaking to his own family,” he said. “Give Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional one more chance — not for me, but for our children and grandchildren.”

In the Johor election tomorrow, PN is contesting 33 seats, with 16 candidates from Bersatu, 11 from PAS, five from the Malaysian Indian People’s Party and one from Pejuang.

Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan are both contesting all 56 seats, while Parti Bersama Malaysia is fielding 15 candidates, Muda four, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia and Parti Orang Asli Malaysia one each. Six independents are also in the race. - FMT
