JOHOR POLLS | MIC has secured a clean sweep in all four seats it contested in the Johor state election, including a stunning upset over DAP in the party’s stronghold of Perling.
P Pannir Selvam defeated DAP's Alan Tee in a three-way contest for Perling that also featured Parti Bersama Malaysia candidate Boo Wei Han.
The Perling seat was previously held by Johor DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong, who won the constituency in 2022 with a majority of 3,347 votes.
MIC delivered another surprise victory when its Johor secretary R Kumaran wrested the Bukit Batu seat from incumbent Arthur Chiong, the Pakatan Harapan candidate from PKR.
The five-cornered contest was closely fought, with candidates from Bersama, Muda and an independent also vying for the seat.

PKR had previously won the constituency with a narrow majority of just 137 votes in 2022.
The other two seats secured by MIC were Kemelah and Kahang.
In Kemelah, K Raven Kumar, who shifted from the Tenggaroh seat, successfully defended BN’s hold on the constituency.

The Johor MIC chief defeated Afif Abd Hamid from Harapan and Uzzair Ismail from Perikatan Nasional, retaining the seat previously held by N Saraswati in 2022.
In Kahang, first-time candidate V Rugendran halted the challenge from Sabri Abd Kadir (Harapan) and former senior Bersatu leader Mazlan Bujang (PN). - Mkini
