Johor menteri besar to be sworn in today after BN's landslide win

JOHOR BARU: The appointment and swearing-in of Johor's new menteri besar is expected to take place later today following Barisan Nasional's (BN) commanding victory in the Johor election.

BN secured 48 of the 56 state seats, eight more than it won in the 2022 Johor election, giving the coalition a strong mandate to form the next Johor government.

The New Straits Times understands that BN leaders are expected to head to the Johor Palace this morning for an audience before any announcement on the menteri besar appointment is made.

The Johor election saw BN secure a commanding majority, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won eight seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) failed to retain any of the three seats it won in the 2022 Johor election.

Attention will now turn to the Johor Palace, where the appointment of the next menteri besar is expected to pave the way for the formation of the new Johor government. - NST
